Homework is an important part of the programmes of study at Sir Frederic Osborn School. Its main purposes are:
1. To encourage a disciplined and self-motivated attitude towards study;
2. To consolidate, reinforce, and complete work begun with teachers in class;
3. To develop good work habits and independent study skills in students; and
4. To help evaluate and assess the progress of individual students.
In Years 7 and 8, students should expect to receive 30 minutes of homework per week in the core subjects and French, with all other subjects setting a 30 minute homework every two weeks. The amount set in each subject rises to 40 minutes in Year 9 and to an hour per week at Key Stage 4. In many cases, staff will set longer term pieces of work to support students in developing independent learning skills.
